I’m Carole Coates, user name “Cataliniana”, author of Catalina Island Pottery & Tile: Island Treasures 1927-1937 (2001), and California Revival: Vintage Decor for Today’s Homes (2007, with Annie Dietz). As a passionate collector for over 20 years, researching and sharing the fascinating story behind Catalina’s ceramic legacy–and California’s art history during the Golden Era pre-World War II–has been a worthwhile endeavor. I’ve found that guest curating, lecturing, even peddling my wares at 4 high-end antique shows a year, has allowed me to meet and interact with many interesting colleagues and fellow-collectors. I’ve been lucky this year to have uncovered some exciting new pieces in the Catalina puzzle, which I will post on this site, but it takes people coming together for the Catalina Movement to reach it’s full potential.
